Introduction
The project involved conducting acoustic simulations for a new energy storage system investment. The main goal was to assess the noise impact on acoustically protected areas and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
Scope of work and execution
- Preliminary measurements and terrain model preparation
At the start of the project, detailed acoustic field measurements were conducted, and a digital terrain model was created using SoundPLAN software. The model incorporated the site’s topography, buildings, environmental elements, and all key components of the energy storage system.

- Acoustic simulations
Simulations were performed to analyze the propagation of noise generated by various components of the energy storage system. By precisely modeling both the system components and the terrain, we could accurately verify the noise propagation direction and assess the impact of different operational scenarios—including cases where not all system components were active.

- Simulation results and regulatory compliance check
According to applicable regulations, the permissible noise levels are:
- 50 dB during the day and 40 dB at night for residential areas
- 55 dB during the day and 45 dB at night for rural residential zones
Simulations confirmed that noise levels at all measurement points remained below these legal thresholds, ensuring full regulatory compliance. The results were presented in the form of grid-based noise maps and calculations for individual receiver points. The analysis showed that energy storage units contributed the most to noise propagation, but none of the points exceeded the allowable limits.

Conclusion
Thanks to precise simulations and the use of advanced software, the energy storage system meets all acoustic requirements, ensuring minimal environmental impact. The project was successfully completed, and the final report with recommendations allowed for cost optimization while ensuring full compliance with legal regulations.
